If you suffer from persistent migraines, you know exactly how painful and devastating they can be to both your mind and your body. Unlike other types of headaches that can easily be treated with drugs like Tylenol, Advil or some type of aspirin, a migraine can oftentimes be difficult to bring under control, and could cause you to be bedridden for as much as a day. The most important thing to remember about the migraine headache is that there is plenty of information out there about how to best cope with the frequency of such an affliction. As with so many other things in this world, the more you know about the illness, the better off you will be in the long run – information is definitely one of the most valuable tools against the migraines so many of us suffer from.

While just about anyone can suffer from a migraine headache, there have been quite a few studies that have led to some valuable information about the types of people most likely to be affected by migraines. For some years, there has been plenty of documentation that mostly women suffer from migraines and they occur in women at a much higher rate of frequency than they do in men. Furthermore, the key ages for people suffering from migraines are between fifteen and fifty five. If your son or daughter gets terrible headaches from time to time, you may assume they are migraines when in actuality it could be something different (sinus related or possibly something more severe). These statistics are interesting to note, as oftentimes people can be incorrectly diagnosed as having migraines when there is actually some undiagnosed underlying problem contributing to their headaches.

There are several key ways in which you can help control a migraine headache. The best possible way is to simply learn how to prevent such headaches. By determining what stimuli cause your migraines and avoiding that stimulus, you can greatly reduce the frequency and severity of a migraine headache. Also, by taking aspirins or other pain relievers when you first feel the migraine coming on, you can reduce the severity of the migraine headache.
